I love the superhero game Heroclix. Like most of us who play the game, I also enjoy the comic books upon which the characters of the game are based.

So I've created a number of campaigns designed to simulate storylines with a traditional comic book feel to them. I'll be gradually posting the several dozen I've got ready over the next few weeks. After that, whenever I get around to creating a new campaign, I'll add that as well.

For the most part, the campaigns will be divided up into Marvel, DC and Mixed Universe. There will be a few single scenario entries as well.

If I can figure out how to manage it, I'd like to allow other Heroclix fans to post their own campaign/scenario creations here as well.

Nick Fury's Very Long Day

Some days, it just doesn’t pay to head up an international espionage and counter-terrorism organization. This morning, when the grizzled, cigar-chomping head of the Supreme Headquarters International Espionage Law-enforcement Division stomped into the helicarrier’s briefing room, he discovered the world had gone to pot. Both Hydra and AIM were launching attempts to take over the world; a massive prison break was taking place at the Vault; and someone had replaced the President of the United States with a Life Model Decoy.

With a curse, Nick Fury reviewed his assets. He had plenty of field soldiers and Mandroids, but he knew he’d need some heavy guns as well. A quick check, though, showed that most of the Avengers were in the 30th Century fighting Kang, while the Fantastic Four was in the Negative Zone doing whatever in blazes they did in the Negative Zone. Even the X-Men were off in deep space.

Still, Fury was able to round up a small number of superheroes. He also called his counterpart in Department H and managed to get the loan of an Alpha Flight member.

Now he had to divide his forces. All four crises had to be met at once—it was left to Fury to decide which hero to send where

.CHOOSE SIDES: One player will operate Fury, a small group of superheroes and SHIELD generics. The other player will use the various villains trying to wreck havoc across the globe. The two players will be called the Hero and the Villain respectively.

TEAMS: The Hero picks any one version each of the following characters: Nick Fury, Captain America, Falcon, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Mockingbird, Ant Man OR Giant Man, Iron Man, Shang Chi, and Wolverine. He may also use Sharon Carter, Dum Dum Dugan, Clay Quatermain and/or Gabe Jones. He may also include ONE member of Alpha Flight in his pool. (Sasquatch, Snowbird, Shaman, Puck, Vindicator, Northstar, Marrina, Aurora, Guardian--whatever version chosen must have the Alpha Flight keyword.) He may use as many SHIELD agents, troopers, snipers (both old and new kind) and Mandroids as he likes. He then divides the named characters up among the scenarios. This is done before determining in which order the scenarios are to be played. Named characters may only be used in the scenario to which they are assigned. The Hero may write his assignments down secretly and need not reveal them to the Villain in advance.

He doesn’t have to finish building a team for a scenario until just before it is played. He may use as many generics as he wishes—since generics do not represent individual characters, they may be used in multiple scenarios. (So if you only own 2 flying SHIELD agents, for example, you can still use them in every scenario if you choose to do so.)

Characters available to the Villain are detailed in the scenario descriptions. One restriction to keep in mind is that the Villain may use any one named character only once. If, for instance, he uses Whirlwind on his Masters of Evil team, he may not later use him on his Sinister Syndicate team (or visa versa).

FEAT CARDS: Neither player may use ICWO or Lazarus Pit. Otherwise, Feat Cards may be assigned freely.

SCENARIO SIZE & LENGTH: All scenarios are 400 points and last 10 rounds.

SCENARIO ORDER: The scenarios are numbered for convenience, but do not have to be played in a particular order. The players roll dice before play begins. High roller picks which scenario to play first, then the two players alternate picking the scenario order throughout the campaign. The next scenario doesn’t have to be chosen until the current scenario is finished.

BFC CARDS: After a scenario is chosen, the choosing player rolls 1 die. On a 1 or a 2, each player MUST play a BFC card other than Ordinary Day. Otherwise, no BFC card is used. BFCs may not be cancelled via Theme Team.

VICTORY: Keep a cumulative total of Victory Points throughout the campaign. High score at the end wins.

SCENARIO #1: The Menace of MODOK

BACKGROUND: MODOK and his AIM minions are attempting to loot Stark Industries of high-tech secrets. With a team of supervillain chosen both for stealth and for muscle, he has subdued the regular security forces and has also managed to plant a mind control chip in War Machine’s armor. Poor Jim Rhodes is being forced to fight for the bad guys.

THE VILLAINS: The Villain uses MODOK and any one version of War Machine. He may build the rest of his team from the following pool of characters: Living Laser, Ghost, Spymaster, Trapster, Crimson Dynamo, Titanium Man, Abomination and any character with the Serpent Society Team Ability. He may also use any number of AIM agents and Dreadnaughts.

MAP: First player must pick either the factory map from the Armor Wars set or the factory map from the Indoor Adventure kit.

SET-UP: Roll for 1st player and set up normally.

SCENARIO #2: Prison Break

BACKGROUND: A massive prison break is taking place at the Vault. Prisoners have broken out of their cells and managed to obtain their weapons and costumes. Only SHIELD can stop them.

THE VILLAINS: The Villain uses any character with the Sinister Syndicate Team Ability. Remember that if he has used a version of a character in a previous scenario, he may NOT use him again now.

THE HEROES: For this scenario only, the Hero may use any number of Guardsmen on his team.

MAP: Use the prison map from the Sinister set.

SET-UP: Roll for 1st player and set up normally.

SCENARIO #3: “Is turning out to be an android an impeachable offense?”

BACKGROUND: Baron Zemo has secretly replaced the President with a Life Model Decoy. SHIELD swoops down on Camp David to put an end to the plot.

THE VILLAINS: The Villain uses Baron Zemo and any other character with the Masters of Evil Team Ability. (Exception: He may not use Ultron.) Remember that if he has used a version of a character in a previous scenario, he may NOT use him again now.The Villain must also use the Politician pog with the Life Model Decoy Feat Card attached, but does not have to count the points for this as part of his total build. The pog is part of his team and can be given actions normally.

MAP: Use the Mansion map from the Indoor Adventure kit.

SET-UP: Roll for 1st player and set up normally.

SPECIAL: The Hero gets 50 bonus points if the Politican pog is KOd. The Villain gets 50 bonus points if the Politician pog is still active at the end of the scenario.

SCENARIO #4: BATTLE IN A VACUUM

BACKGROUND: Hydra has been detected trying to set up a ring of weather control satellites in orbit around Earth. Fury sends troops into space to put a stop to this.

THE VILLAINS: The Villain uses either the Red Skull OR Baron Strucker. He may also use any one version each of Viper and Silver Samurai. Also, a group of evil mutants was at loose ends after Magneto was recently captured, so they’ve hired themselves out as muscle to Hydra. The Villain may use any one version each of Blob, Pyro, Sabertooth, Toad, Avalanche and Destiny. The Villain may also use any number of Hydra agents/foot soldiers/technicians/officers and Dreadnaughts.

MAP: Use the Space map that came with the Supernova set. All the special rules regarding that map are in effect.

SET-UP: Roll for 1st player and set up normally.

FINAL VICTORY: Add up all victory points earned during the campaign. If the Hero is ahead, then Nick Fury has kept the world safe for one more day. If they Villain is ahead, then global chaos ensues and poor Nick has yet another long headache of a day to look forward to tomorrow.
