I love the superhero game Heroclix. Like most of us who play the game, I also enjoy the comic books upon which the characters of the game are based.

So I've created a number of campaigns designed to simulate storylines with a traditional comic book feel to them. I'll be gradually posting the several dozen I've got ready over the next few weeks. After that, whenever I get around to creating a new campaign, I'll add that as well.

For the most part, the campaigns will be divided up into Marvel, DC and Mixed Universe. There will be a few single scenario entries as well.

If I can figure out how to manage it, I'd like to allow other Heroclix fans to post their own campaign/scenario creations here as well.

The Music and Magic Tour--A DC Universe campaign

PRESS RELEASE: Famed country music singer Greg Saunders has teamed up with amazing magician Zatanna Zatara for a major cross-country tour. The tour will include stops in Metropolis, Gotham City, Central City, and Coast City. Tickets are available at ticketmaster.com. Proceeds for the show will be donated to the “Orphans of Infinite Crisis” fund.

Well, Zatanna and Vigilante might be planning on just entertaining their fans, but it seems unlikely that they’ll escape the need to do a little crime-busting along the way. And, in fact, that’s just what happens. In every city at which the “Music & Magic” tour stops, the two superheroes end up teaming with some old friends to do battle with the forces of evil.

One player in this campaign will use any one version of Zatanna, Vigilante and some scenario-specific guest stars. He must use the same versions of Zatanna and Vigilante throughout the campaign.

The other player will be using a different set of villains in each scenario. The two players will be referred to as the Hero and the Villain respectively.

THERE IS ONLY ONE!: No duplicates of named figures may be used in any scenario.

SPECIAL GUEST STAR: Vigilante’s old friend Shining Knight may show up to lend a hand. The Hero may include Shining Knight on his team in one or two of the scenarios. This is optional, not required.

FEAT CARDS: Only the Hero may use ICWO, and then only in the Gotham City scenario if he uses Oracle. Only the Villain may use Lazarus Pit, and then only in the Gotham City scenario if he uses Ra’s al Ghul. The card may then be assigned to Ra’s al Ghul ONLY.

BFC cards: Some scenarios require the use of a specific BFC card. Otherwise, they are not used.

SCENARIO LENGTH: All Scenarios are 10 rounds

VICTORY: Keep a running total of victory points throughout the campaign.

MAPS: Each scenario requires a specific map. If the correct map isn’t available to the players, they should be able to agree on a good alternate. Roll dice to resolve any disputes.

THE SCENARIOS:

GOTHAM CITY:

After doing a show at the famous Gotham Square Theater, Vigilante and Zatanna get involved in helping Batman on a case. Some of Batman’s old enemies have kidnapped Dr. Kurt Langstrom and forced him to change back into Man Bat. They force Man Bat to do their bidding (coating his claws with a slow-acting poison) and use him to lure Batman into a trap.

The heroes track the villains down and corner them at the Axis Chemical factory.

TEAM SIZE: 400 points.

TEAMS: The Hero uses Vigilante, Zatanna, Batman and any heroic figures with the Batman TA, Gotham City keyword or Birds of Prey keyword. He may use Barbara Gordon as either Batgirl OR Oracle, but not both. He may not use Batmans from outside the regular DC Universe or from the future. He may use the Batman/Robin duo figure rather than individual pieces with that name. He may use Commissioner Gordon, Harvey Bullock, Rene Montoya and/or any number of Gotham City police or undercover agents.

The Villain must use at least one Batman Enemy who has either Leadership or Mastermind on his dial. He must also use any version of Man Bat. He may use any other figures with the Batman Enemy team ability. If he wishes, he may use any number of thugs, lackeys, criminals and henchmen.

MAP: The Chemical factory map.

SET-UP: Roll for first player and set up normally.

SPECIAL RULE: The poison on Man Bat’s claws make him particularly dangerous. When Man Bat knocks out a figure, the Villain is awarded 10 bonus victory points in addition to those points normally awarded.

METROPOLIS:

While setting up the show to be played that night at Metro Stadium, our two heroes end up helping Superman out on a case. It seems a team of Superman’s enemies are attempting to steal rare radioactive isotopes from STAR Labs—all part of a plan to build a super weapon.

TEAM SIZE: 600 points

TEAMS: The Hero must use Vigilante, Zatanna and Superman. He may also use any figures with the Superman Team Ability. He may also use any number of Metropolis SCU cops. He must use a Superman from the present-time regular DC Universe.

The Villain may use any villianous figures with the Superman Enemy Team Ability or the Metropolis key word. He may use any number of Intergang Agents and/or Medics if he wishes to do so.

MAP: Use the STAR Labs map.

SET-UP: Roll for first player and set up normally.

BFC: The Radiation Leak BFC card is in effect.

CENTRAL CITY:

While arriving in Central City, Vigilante and Zatanna stumble across an attempt by some of Flash’s Rogue’s Gallery to rob a bank. Flash, who is just returning from a fishing trip with some of his superhero friends, also lends a hand.

TEAM SIZE: 400 points

TEAMS: The Hero must use Vigilante, Zatanna and Flash. The rest of his team is made up of any of these figures: Green Arrow, Elongated Man, Aquaman, Plastic Man, Booster Gold, Blue Beetle (the original), Wildcat, Black Lightning, Question, Kid Flash.

The Villain may use any figures with the Rogues key word. He may also use number of thugs, lackeys, criminals and henchmen. Also, he has the option of having the Rogues get hold of some robots. In this case, he may borrow any number of Dreadnaughts from the Marvel Universe.

MAP: Use the Bank map

SET-UP: Roll for 1st player and set up normally. EXCEPTION: The Villain may start one of his characters inside the bank vault. This character still has 1st turn immunity as long as he remains in the vault.

COAST CITY:

The tour ends with a date at the new Coast City Amphitheater. But the event is interrupted when the Injustice League is recruited by Sinestro to help do away with Hal Jordan.

TEAM SIZE: 600 points.

TEAMS: The Hero must use Zatanna, Vigilante and any version of a Hal Jordan Green Lantern. In addition, he may use any other Green Lantern figure and/or any figure with the Justice League of America keyword. Any Green Lantern used must be a regular DC Universe, present-time character.

The Villain must use any one version of Sinestro (including the big figure if he chooses). The rest of his team is any figure with the Injustice League keyword. (This may include any figure he used in a previous scenario—that figure has simply escaped from jail).

MAP: The battle takes place on the streets of Coast City. 1st player will pick any outdoor, urban map.

SET-UP: Roll for 1st player and set up normally. Hal Jordan does NOT have 1st turn immunity, but adds 3 to his defense in the first round while he remains in his starting area.

THE TOUR IS OVER:

If the Hero is ahead on victory points, then the tour is a commercial and artistic success, Vigilante’s next album goes double-platinum and the world is safe from villainy.

If the Villain is ahead on victory points, then the tour is a dismal failure, Zatanna’s regular bookings in Las Vegas are cancelled and villainy runs rampant across America.
