I love the superhero game Heroclix. Like most of us who play the game, I also enjoy the comic books upon which the characters of the game are based.

So I've created a number of campaigns designed to simulate storylines with a traditional comic book feel to them. I'll be gradually posting the several dozen I've got ready over the next few weeks. After that, whenever I get around to creating a new campaign, I'll add that as well.

For the most part, the campaigns will be divided up into Marvel, DC and Mixed Universe. There will be a few single scenario entries as well.

If I can figure out how to manage it, I'd like to allow other Heroclix fans to post their own campaign/scenario creations here as well.

THE ALTERNATE AVENGERS

We all know that there are a gazillion alternate realities within the Marvel multi-verse. In some cases, the heroes are villains and the villains are heroes. Or the Axis won World War II. Or people put ketchup instead of mustard on hot dogs. In other cases, the changes are more subtle.

For instance, an issue of the Avengers from some years back briefly showed a universe in which Storm and Colossus had become Avengers. That's where this campaign idea comes from. This is set in Marvel Universe 593, which is similar to the regular 616 Universe in many ways, but in which there were some differences in the make-up of the Avengers.

One player (the Hero) will play the Avengers, drawing his figures from a pre-designated pool. The other player (the Villain) will play the various bad guys the Hero must battle.

"AVENGERS ASSEMBLE": The Hero will have a pool of 12 figures from which to build teams for each scenario. He forms this pool using the following criteria:

1. He must use any one version each of Captain America, Iron Man and Thor. The chosen versions must all have the Avengers TA.

2. He chooses 2 figures from the following list: Black Panther, Hawkeye, Hercules, Black Knight, Wasp, Ant Man (or Giant Man instead of Ant Man)

3. He chooses 2 figures from the following list: Cyclops, Storm, Colossus, Jean Grey, Nightcrawler, Angel

4. He chooses 2 figures from the following list: Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Girl/Woman, Human Torch, Thing, Medusa, Crystal.

5. He chooses 2 figures from the following list: Iron Fist, Power Man, Daredevil, Black Cat, Paladin, Silver Sable.

6. He chooses one of the two following figures: Doctor Strange or Ghost RiderIn each case, he picks one specific version of a character. This is the version he will use throughout the campaign.

THEME TEAM BONUS: All characters in the Hero’s available pool gain “Avengers 593” as a keyword.

GIANT MAN/ ANT MAN SPECIAL RULE: If Henry Pym is on the team, you may decide at the beginning of each scenario in which he participates whether to use him as Ant Man or Giant Man. You may switch him back and forth between scenarios if you which to do so. This does NOT fulfill the requirement of switching out at least one figure between each scenario.

"WE WILL DESTROY THE ACCURSED AVENGERS!!!": For each of the three scenarios, the Villain will choose one of the three Team Abilities: Sinister Syndicate, Masters of Evil, Brotherhood. He uses each TA once, so that he uses a different TA each scenario. He then builds his team for that scenario out of figures with that TA.

He may repeat figures as long as he's using the appropriate version for each scenario. For instance, he can use the SS Whirlwind when using that TA and then use the MOE Whirlwind when using that TA.In the last scenario, the Villain uses figures with all three Team Abilities.

FEAT CARDS: Neither player may use In Contact with Oracle or Lazarus Pit. Otherwise, feat cards may be assigned freely for each scenario.

SCENARIOS: Each scenario is one battle in the long, distinguished history of the Universe 593 Avengers. Before each scenario, the Villain announces what team he is using. Both players then build their teams secretly and reveal them simultaneously. All scenarios are 500 points and last 10 rounds. After teams are revealed, roll for first player. Choose maps and set up normally. After players choose the map and choose set up areas, roll one die. On a 1-2, both players must play a Battlefield Condition card. Otherwise, no BFC cards are used for the scenario. The BFCs can not be cancelled via Theme Team ability.

HEROIC TEAM BUILDING: The hero must use at least one of the following figures in each scenario: Captain America, Iron Man, Thor. He may use two or all three of them if he desires. After each scenario, he must "rest" at least one figure used during that scenario. (In other words, not use him in the next fight.) In each scenario after the first, he must always use at least one figure that did not participate in the previous fight. This figure must be one that has not yet been used at all in the campaign if there are any such figures remaining.

Other than these criteria, the Hero may build his teams however he likes. If he's got a combination he likes, he can trade off one figure for another and keep things reasonably intact. Or he can rearrange things entirely and go with something radically different.

VILLAINOUS TEAM BUILDING: For the first three scenarios, the Villain builds a team out of figures with his chosen TA.The fourth scenario is the final issue of a cross-over miniseries event. The Villain may choose figures from all three TAs. He must use at least one figure from each team.

"IN THIS REALITY, HE HAS A TWIN": For the last scenario, the Villain may not normally use duplicates. For instance, he may use the SS Whirlwind or the MOE Whirlwind, but not both. UNLESS:The Villain may choose to make one exception to this and have a duplicate of any one character on his team. That's because in the 593 Universe, this particular character has a twin brother. They just happened to have joined different supervillain groups. So he could have the two Whirlwinds, or have two Constrictors or Boomerangs or whoever else might qualify. This is not a requirement, just an option the Villain may use when building his team for the grand finale.

ALTERNATE LAST SCENARIO: If the players have a Dormammu, they may mutually agree to have the Villain play this figure plus some Mindless ones against the Avengers. Players can mutually agree on the team size for the scenario..

"VICTORY IS MINE!!!": Keep a running total of victory points throughout all four scenarios. If the Hero comes out ahead, then the 593 Universe has an Avengers with a successful, distinguished history and he wins. If the Villain is ahead on points, then the 593 World descends into chaos as the Avengers prove inadequate to their chosen task.
